Earth Share of Georgia, along with Hands on Atlanta, has organized a series of events to celebrate the 32nd Earth Day in Atlanta April 20. Borders Benefit Days Fifteen percent of all purchases-with-voucher benefit Earth Share of Georgia. April 15-21.

Earth Day Grounds Cleanup and Ivy Pull Team up with Fernbank volunteers and staff to help maintain and preserve Fernbank Forest. Fernbank Museum of Natural History, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Inman Middle School Tree Care Volunteers mulch and prune street trees. Mulching helps trees through the upcoming summer drought, adds organic matter to the soil and prevents weeds from choking out young trees. Trees Atlanta sponsors this event. Inman Middle School. April 20, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Oakland MARTA Tree Care Trees Atlanta sponsors this event. Oakland MARTA Station. April 20, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Party in the Park Join 200 business leaders, community activists and environmentalists to celebrate the 32nd Earth Day. The evening includes keynote speaker Mayor Shirley Franklin, the sixth annual Silent Spring Auction, music by the Tone Mutts and light food and drink. Tickets are $15 per person; $25 per couple. Spring Opening of Community Garden Grand opening of the Boulevard Organic Community Garden. The Georgia Conservancy. April 20, 10 a.m.

South Peachtree Creek Nature Preserve Workday South Peachtree Creek Nature Preserve is a 28-acre property in the Medlock Park neighborhood consisting of a beaver pond, wetlands and forest. The workday will be held to spread wood chips on trails, pick up trash, and remove ivy from trees. South Peachtree Creek Nature Preserve. Storza Woods cleanup Help clear this wooded Midtown area by cleaning out underbrush, clearing trails, removing fallen limbs and trees. To avoid exposure to poison ivy, wear long sleeves, boots (not tennis shoes), gloves and long pants. Participants must be 18 or over. April 20, 10 a.m.-noon. Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1345 Piedmont Ave.

Trail Cleanup Help control erosion in the Dunwoody Nature Center picnic area and trails. "Discourage" invasive non-native plants in the wetlands, as part of a long-range ecological restoration project. Dunwoody Nature Center. April 20, 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Carter Center Join other volunteers in the revitalization of The Carter Center's specialty gardens. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Chastain Park Volunteers needed to clear brush, plant native azaleas, spread mulch, and pull privet around pond area. Please wear long pants and shirt. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Chattahoochee Nature Center Volunteers needed to pull privet to preserve its native plants. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Concerned Neighbors of Chosewood Park Volunteers needed to create flowerbeds and plant trees around park area and discard debris. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Dunwoody Nature Center: Nature Center Location Volunteers needed for trail maintenance, brush removal, gardening and mulching picnic areas. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Eastlake Park Get down and dirty with City Council President Cathy Woolard and the city of Atlanta volunteers at Eastlake Park to plant flowers, create flowerbeds, spread mulch, paint benches and pavilions, and clean up a stream. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Freedom Park Join Park Pride at Freedom Park to mulch trees and clear overgrowth. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Grant Park Conservancy Join over 140 volunteers for a day in the park with Grant Park Conservancy. Tasks include preparing and planting flowerbeds, mulching, building protective fences around selected trees and general beautification of the park. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Keep Cobb Beautiful This organization is planting gardens at four fire stations in memory of firefighters killed Sept. 11. These gardens will be long lasting and sustainable. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Northlake Community Volunteers needed to help the city tackle trash and spruce up MARTA stations. Volunteers will convene at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Northlake Mall.

Outdoor Activity Center Help the Outdoor Activity Center maintain its 26-acre urban forest. Throughout the forest, hiking trails need relining, mulching, gardening and cleaning up. Volunteers with carpentry skills needed to repair playground equipment. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Piedmont Park Conservancy Volunteers needed to mulch trees, prep flowerbeds and install protective fences around existing trees. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Path Foundation: The Carter Center Area Volunteers needed to clear debris along a nature path in the Carter Center area. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Renaissance Park Help beautify Renaissance Park and Central Park in preparation for Music Midtown the first weekend in May. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Sandy Springs Recycling Center Volunteers needed to remove graffiti, assist with set-up for outdoor festival, and gardening at Riverwood High School. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Southface Energy Institute Volunteers invited to plant an herbal spiral-shaped garden that will accommodate 12 herb varieties. Tasks will include sheet mulching to improve soil and prevent weeds and creating homemade soaps & cleaners. Great for kids. April 20, 9 a.m.-noon.
