The ATLANTA JAZZ FESTIVAL, which has grown into one of the world's biggest free jazz events over its 30-year history, unfolded throughout May with nighttime and afternoon concerts, panel discussions and film screenings. The grand finale arrives Memorial Day weekend, from Sat.-Mon., MAY 26-28, when performances by the Vijay Iyer Quartet and the Herbie Hancock Quintet (Saturday), the Bobby Hutcherson Quartet and the Pete Escovedo Orchestra (Sunday) and Monty Alexander (Monday, pictured) ring throughout Piedmont Park.
