We [http://clatl.com/freshloaf/archives/2014/10/17/flux-bringing-performance-art-to-ponce-city-market] it was coming. Flux Projects and Ponce City Market present artist Nick Cave’s groundbreaking performance, Up Right: Atlanta. With choreography by Atlanta local T. Lang, the performance piece will showcase artful dance, cultural symbolism, and the type of unique storytelling associated with Cave’s work as a dancer, performer, and visual artist. Cave’s signature wearable fabric sculptures stem from a place of sociopolitical unrest, and this will be no exception. A call to action for viewers, the event will be free and open to the public at Ponce City Market’s vast central hall. Up Right: Atlanta will include two daily performances from Fri., April 24, through Sun., April 26, along with a special paid patron party and special dress rehearsal by Nick Cave on Thurs., April 23. Inman Park, one of Atlanta’s oldest and most scenic neighborhoods, is even welcoming the public into their homes — literally — during the Tour of Homes. The festival runs from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, though the street parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. For more details about the schedule of events, click here.

Marshall Allen of Sun Ra has been studying musical cosmology for over half a decade. On Sunday, April 26, Allen will join filmmaker James Harrar for a workshop at the Mammal Galleryclatl.com/atlanta/the-mammal-gallery/Location?oid=9343966. [http://www.cinemasoloriens.com/Cinema_Soloriens/Biography.html |Cinema Soloriens], a 22-year-old passion project of the two artists, consists of a live performance ritual which includes the experimental video imagery of Harrar and live musical renderings for each film. The musical renderings, which are directed and performed by Harrar in conjunction with Allen, Mitch Esparza, and other musicians, place emphasis on the concept of artist collaboration and exploring live performance. Presented by the Goat Farm and held at the Mammal Gallery, the event is on Sun., April 26, with doors opening at 7 p.m, and the workshop beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door only, and there is an age restriction of 18 or older only.
