GO TELL EVERYBODY: The Rock*A*Teens have a new album in the works.

If you didn’t catch the Rock*A*Teens’ heroic doubleheader last Saturday night at Buteco Coffee & Bar, there’s no need to fret. The group returns for another two sets on Saturday, July 20, at 8:30 p.m. Last week, the group tore through two rounds of short greatest hits, with five new songs sprinkled throughout the evening. No new song titles are available yet, but there is much activity in the works. “The new songs have placeholder titles, which is what we do until Chris [Lopez] finishes the lyrics,” says the group’s bass player Will Joiner.

The Rock*A*Teens have, however, begun recording a new album with producers/engineers Rafael Pereira and Tim Delaney, and are using these Buteco shows to tune up and work out the kinks on a batch of new songs before their set at the Merge Records 30th-anniversary summer festival. MRG30 takes place July 24–27 at various venues in Durham, Carbarro, and Chapel Hill.

On Wed., July 24, the Rock*A*Teens share the stage with Escape-ism for the MRG30 opening night after party at the Motorco Music Hall.

Closer to home, the Rock*A*Teens play the Earl on Sat., Aug. 6, with All the Saints.
